Friday, June 16, 2006 By Christina VanGinkel I am planning to purchase my thirteen-year-old son an iPod for his upcoming birthday this fall. Along with the iPod, what is for me a big draw towards actually getting him this little musical and movie wonder is the ease of which one can buy and add music and movies, all via the iTunes site. The iTunes site is one I am already familiar with, because I have purchased and downloaded both music and videos to use on my computer. The ease of use the site offers is a major plus in the decision, not to mention the wide selection of media that they offer, and at reasonable prices. They have shows available from a variety of television stations, including: ABC, ABC Family, Animal Planet, Bravo, CBS, Comedy Central, CSTV / CBS Sports, Discovery Channel, Discovery Health, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, ESPN / ABC Sports, Fox, Fuel TV, FX, Jetix, MTV, NBA TV, NBC, NBC News, Nickelodeon, Sci Fi, Showtime, SOAPnet, Speed, The N, Travel Channel, and USA The Disney Channel offers favorite episodes from the following popular shows: The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, That's SO Raven, Disney's Little Einstein's, Disney's Kim Possible, The Proud Family, The Emperor's New School, and Disney's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. For an example of the pricing, Disney's Little Einstein's is available in single episodes for the cost of $1.99 each, or the complete first season, all twenty one episodes, for $41.79. The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is available in single episodes for the same price of $1.99 an episode, but season two, which has a total of only 14 episodes is available for the bargain price of $27.86. Fox offers many favorite classic shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Lost in Space. They also offer current favorites, including 24, Prison Break, Unan1mous, and Stacked. Single episodes from the various Fox offerings are all $1.99, with pricing for seasons dependant on how many episodes each show has available. Several Pixar Shorts are available for the bargain price of $0.99 and include One Man Band, Luxo Jr., Boundin', For the birds, Geri's Game, Red's Dream, Tin Toy, and Knock Knack. These are just a small sampling of the available shows that the various stations offer. They offer music in both singles and complete albums from every known genre including Alternative, Blue's, Children's Music, Classical, Country, Dance, Folk, Hip Hop, Rap, Inspirational, Jazz, Latin, Pop, R&B / Soul, Reggae, and Rock. Songs are routinely available for $0.99, and music video for $1.99. Complete albums vary in price, much the same as they do wherever you buy them. The advantage of purchasing these formats through iTunes though, is that you can play them on your computer, you can burn them to a CD and take them with you to play in your vehicle or home stereo, or you can download them to your iPod, and your MP3 player. Besides all of the listed genres and formats, you can also buy short films, and music videos, along with audio books and the availability of Podcasts. They often offer free downloads, which is great for those unfamiliar with the iTunes site. You can sample the ease of use, without ever having to pay a single dime. Free downloads can be anything from music to Podcasts, even short videos, so if you are curious about the iTunes site, but are not yet ready to take the plunge, at least do yourself a favor, and download some of the freebies. Podcasts are a growing media favorite, and iTunes has them in abundance, including News and Politics, Video Podcasts, Sports, Comedy Public Broadcasting, Music, Education, TV & Film, Technology, Science & Medicine, and Business. You can also submit your own Podcasts to share. All Podcasts are available free! I even found a Podcast that showed me how to create pop-up for cards and scrapbook pages. Can you believe that besides all of the media choices I have listed so far, that I have not mentioned everything that iTunes has to offer? They have several other media formats available, so be sure to check them out yourself if you a re wondering what all of the hype is really about. iTunes is truly a one-stop shopping and media experience. 7:16 AM Comments: Post a Comment << Home |
