Buying What Fits Best
Monday, August 14, 2006

Living in a modern world as we do today, there comes time when change is almost necessary, but where to begin? The technology market is saturated with products hoping to be "The One" but in all reality it just adds to the frustration of finding the right "One" for you.

Recently I came to the conclusion that I should invest in a MP3 player, one that I could hold about fifteen to twenty cds and one that had good battery life, just plain and simple, what I found was much more. They have ones that play video, games, photos, and of course, songs. I was floored to find that I had so many choices, several features, and different screen sizes, with many different prices. If I wanted video, photos, and songs, along with a unheard song capacity, like the iPod Video, my wallet would deflate about three-hundred dollars. On the contrary, if I purchased a lower-end Creative Zen Nano Plus (that's a mouth full) I would get about 60 songs, and a small compact player for about forty dollars. I searched and searched for, "The One" MP3 player for me, and it actually fell in between the two products above, it has been dubbed iPod Nano and has great battery life, along with a color screen, one-hundred and twenty song capacity, photo viewing, small-compact design, and games. While this MP3 player was everything that I was looking for, the price wasn't. It came to a total of one-hundred and forty-nine dollars, half of what the iPod Video cost. While this MP3 player is what I wanted, I wish that I would have got a product on the lower-end, after all I wasn't initially searching for one that carried photos, had a color screen, or one that was even small or compact. What it really comes down to, is our mentality as humans, is to want more, and to go above and beyond what we know that we could have, or what we do have. Even if the price is just a little bit higher than what we expected, or wanted to pay, in most situations if we have the money, we'll buy the upgrade.

Here are some examples of everyday purchases that we as humans living in America will undoubtedly upgrade. When were at Wendy's, and the employee ask us to Biggie Size our meal for just forty-nine cents, nine out of ten times, we'll do it. When were looking to buy a Lazy-Boy, and the sales representative ask us if we want the other model that's softer and fuller, if its in range of fifty dollars, well buy it. When were at the check-out line at Wal-Mart and pick up a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but then we see the King Size, well buy it. When were at the cell phone store getting a new phone, we always buy the phone that has the best features and we'll spend fifty to a hundred dollars, but if we think that the next phone up is a pretty color we might just pay an extra twenty. As you can see there are so many times in our daily lifes that we can step it up just a bit, or Biggie Size that meal, or get the pretty color, and for what? Is it for a little bit of luxury? Is it for a little bit more weight around our middle? Or is because we want to match with our phones? America spends more on upgrading what they already have, or what they plan on getting, can we not be happy with average?

Now anytime someone ask me on advice for getting an MP3 Player, first I'll always ask them what their looking for in one, and then to the best of my knowledge tell them the one that fits without the bells and whistles, so when their at the store getting ready to buy it, they'll see the next one up, that's just a bit better, that fits their needs and then some, for a little bit more money.
