I am a big fan of the Playstation 2 video game system. Graphics on the games that play in the machine are high quality; the assortment of titles is huge, with games suitable for the youngest crowd all the way to the hardest core gamers. With the next generation of this machine on the horizon, there are still many reasons to purchase the Sony Playstation 2 system if you are new to the gaming world, or even if you are replacing a different system and some of those very reasons are packaged under the persona of Greatest Hits.
The Greatest Hits collection is an assortment of titles for the Playstation 2 system that sell for a deeply discounted price when compared to other Playstation 2 titles, or any other big name gaming system's software for that matter. What started out as a small list of titles for the budget shopper has grown immensely throughout the years. Titles in the list are available for purchase separately, for a low price of $19.99 to $29.99. Moreover, I have come across titles in this listing for even less, on special, for as low as $9.99. While this might not be a suggested retail price, the fact that you can find them on sale for less is always a plus.
Playstation 2 titles are moved to the Greatest Hits list by way of a calculation within the system. When a title sells so many copies, over a span of time, it is repackaged with a red bar and the words Greatest Hits added to the top of the packaging. Graphics for the cover art are also different, but the title inside of the box is identical to the game when it was selling at full list price. What is so great about this for some of us older gamers is that we might have wanted to play a certain title, even rented it a few times, but it never made it into our budget. Now, for a price equal to a single pizza delivery, we can own those titles we always wished we did. For new gamers, the budget price is just a great way to build up a library of games and forego the renting of titles altogether.
